Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua invited 6 governors from the troubled Rift Valley region for a crisis meeting.

Gachagua invited the governors during a meeting with governors from drought-stricken countries.

This comes shortly after President William Ruto ordered security organs across the country to deal firmly with bandits following the Saturday morning attack that killed 11 people.

The DP also invited the National Police Service and the General Service Unit (GSU) leadership to the meeting to discuss the way forward in dealing with the volatile security situation in the region.

"The governors from West Pokot, Turkana, Samburu, Laikipia, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, we are inviting you for a meeting tomorrow at 8.30 am to discuss the security situation in that part of the country," Gachagua said.

According to Gachagua, there is no way governors have no say in security matters yet it affects their own people.

"It cannot be that governors have no say in security matters yet it affects their own people. We will meet with our officers who are handling security including the acting IG Noor Gabow and the GSU commandant to agree on what to do," he said.

He noted the national government had purposed to work with county governments to yield better results in eradicating problems facing Kenyans.
