The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has addressed information circulating across social media platforms regarding the purported mass resignation of its officers.

In a statement on its social media pages, the DCI clarified that the seven officers resigned within the stipulated National Police Service Standing Orders to pursue other interests.

“The DCI attention has been drawn to allegations doing rounds in social media insinuating forced resignation of 7 DCI officers,” the DCI said.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations clarifies as follows: That like in any other progressive institution, resignation of staff to pursue other interests in life is well provided for in the National Police Service, under the NPS Service Standing Orders (SSO).”

According to the DCI, the officers in question resigned under the 24-hour rule of various dates and were not dismissed from the service as widely rumoured.

“Therefore, the officers reported to have resigned did so under the 24-hour rule on diverse dates last month and were not forced to leave the service as alleged,” the DCI said.

The DCI also revealed that detectives who were based at different specialised units within the Directorate left to pursue their careers in the private sector as financial investigators, fraud experts, and IT specialists among others.
