The Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o has trashed US government’s advisory in Kisumu ahead if the Supreme Count’s verdict on the presidential election petition.

The US government once again issued a movement advisory to its citizens and employees residing in Kisumu.

In a statement the governor issued on Friday Nyong’o expressed his concerns about the tone the memo that was issued by the US embassy and insinuation that violence may break out in Kisumu.

“We take the exceptional concern at the tone of the memo which singles out Kisumu and suggests that the city could witness violence after the September 5 court ruling on presidential election petition,” Nyong’o said.

He assured Kisumu residents that the verdict of the presidential election petition will not affect the state of affairs.

The governor said Kisumu is a multiracial and peaceful community that cares for one another.

Nyong’o appealed to the youth in Kisumu to maintain peace.

The US government’s advisory suggested that cases of violence may be witnessed depending on the outcome of the presidential election petition in Supreme Court on Monday.

“Election-related demonstrations and rallies regularly take place after elections, at times blocking key intersections and causing traffic jams,” the memo read.

“Demonstrations may occasionally be violent, requiring police intervention. Strikes and other protest activities related to economic conditions occur regularly.”
