UDA’s Paul Chebor has emerged as the winner in the Rongai parliamentary contest whose elections were held on Monday.

This comes after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) postponed elections in the constituency and other areas.

Chebor garnered 27,021 votes and Raymond of KANU received 14,725 while Chama Cha Mashinani’s Luka Kigen came in third a distant third with only 593 votes.

Chebor thanked Rongai residents for electing him and pledged to work with all of them even those who did not vote for him.

"I thank the people of Rongai for believing in me. I promise to deliver and I will not let them down. I promise to work with all the residents irrespective of whether they voted for me or not," Chebor said.

However, Raymond raised an issue of vote alleged voter bribery and was not present at the Nakuru Teachers Training College tallying centre.

Earlier in the day, Nakuru East MP-elect David Gikaria narrowly escaped the wrath of irate voters at Kiamunyi Secondary School polling centre after a section of the voters accused him of interfering with the voting process.

The police had to intervene and rescue Gikaria before a boda boda operator took him away on his motorbike.
