President-elect William Ruto, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and other Kenya Kwanza Alliance leaders joined other Christians for a Holy Mass at the Christ is the King Catholic Cathedral in Bungoma on Sunday.

While addressing members during the service, Ruto said the previous election was the best and the most credible, free and fair one the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has ever offered Kenyans.


“IEBC has done something that has never happened in these elections. They have done a free and fair election. If there is a transparent election that has been held in the nation of Kenya, it is the one of 9th August 2022," Ruto said.

Ruto hailed the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati for emerging the hero during the election by allegedly refusing to accept blackmail and bribery.

"That we can resist bribery, and blackmail and intimidation and serve the public interests as public servants and I want to say Chebukati is the hero of this election," Ruto said.

The ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi who also termed Chebukati as a hero echoed his sentiments.


Mudavadi opined that Chebukati deserved accolades for standing firm while alluding that there were people out to snatch Ruto’s victory.

"He deserves accolades, had he wavered, had he not stood firm, there were those hell bent on snatching the victory of William Ruto from him through unorthodox methods," Mudavadi said.

Ruto appealed to Kenyans to maintain peace even as they wait for the Supreme Court’s verdict on the presidential election petition filed by the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua challenging his win.


"All of us including our competitors, let us maintain that new standard even as we wait for the decision of the supreme court, let us be vigilant, let us be peaceful and let us ensure that we move together and avoid conflict and anything that can bring issues between the people of Kenya," Ruto said.

The Kenya Kwanza leaders expressed their confidence in the Supreme Court upholding Ruto’s win in the ongoing petition.
