The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga wants the Supreme Court to declare him the winner of the presidential election conducted on August 9, 2022, should the court find out he was the winner instead of ordering a re-run.
Raila was speaking in Mombasa when he was campaigning for Abdulswamad Nassir on Wednesday where he said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati should withdraw from the president over the Monday elections set to be held in Mombasa and Kakamega Counties.
He opined that IEBC ought to have recognised him as the president-elect should the Supreme Court judges agree with his petition.
“We want the courts to make that declaration that we won the presidential elections because that is the truth. Instead of going back to the ballot, we should be announced as the winners so that we can be sworn in,” Raila said.

Raila accused Chebukati of bungling the elections and insisted he should disqualify himself from overseeing the forthcoming elections in the 8 areas where the exercise was postponed.
He also accused Chebukati of propagating injustice even after the other commissioners distanced themselves from him.
Raila stood with the IEBC vice chairperson Juliana Cherera and the three commissioners namely Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi and Justus Nyang’aya who denounced Chebukati’s results and said he failed to provide leadership.
He was accompanied by his running mate Martha Karua and they both strongly believed their victory was stolen from them through illegal activities performed by the IEBC.
Karua appealed to their supporters to remain hopeful even as they wait for the Supreme Court’s verdict because the evidence they have will see the court rule in their favour.
“We are hopeful the court will rule in our favour because we have substantial evidence. Let’s not be worried or give up. I’m happy you’ve not given up; you are strong, that’s what will give us the gubernatorial seat,” Karua said.
