Kisii Governor Simba Arati has rejected a Sh57 million budget, which was meant for the assumption of office exercise, which was scheduled for Thursday.
Arati said he does not expect to spend Sh50 million in a day for a celebration of his swearing in yet hospitals in the county have run out of drugs and water is still scarce.
“How will I spend the Sh57 million in a day just for a celebration while we have no drugs in hospitals, no water at our homes and stalled health care facilities,” Arati said.
According to Arati, he had to cut off the budget which included Sh33 million for buying new cars for him and his deputy, Sh10 million for the Thursday function, Sh7 million for the renovation of the governor’s office and Sh6 million for the renovation of the governor’s residence.
“I had to cut off this budget because I already have a car. I can’t put this car aside because I need a brand new one. My deputy governor will be using the previous car the outgoing governor was using,” Arati said.

Arati said the Sh33 million will be channelled to other meaningful uses beneficial to the residents of Kisii.
Concerning the renovation of his office, Arati revealed there already was a donor who volunteered to renovate the governor’s office. Therefore, he slashed the Sh7 million from that budget.
“I don’t need a rented house, which the outgoing governor has been using. I will wait for the ongoing residential house for the governor to be completed. Six million will also be cut off and channelled to other projects,” he said.
