The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has directed the Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai to undertake comprehensive investigations into the matter of slain Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer Daniel Mbolu Musyoka.
Haji wrote to the Mutyambai on Thursday and copied the IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati instructing him to look into the murder and also misleading reports on the presidential election and submit the investigation report within seven days.
“Accordingly, you are hereby directed to undertake comprehensive investigations into the matters contained in the above-mentioned statement, pursuant to Article 157 (4) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, and submit the resultant investigation file within seven (7) days of the date hereof,” the letter read.
Chebukati announced Musyoka’s disappearance on the election day at around 9:45 am when he excused himself for a phone call only to turn up dead in Kajiado almost a week later.
Musyoka's family linked his murder to failed bribery attempts while reiterating he had no enemies.
