Police have arrested a Presiding Officer and a Deputy Presiding officer in Kisauni Constituency, Mombasa county after they refused to count votes.
According to sources privy to the incident, the two were arrested and put in police custody for refusing to perform their duties after they realised one candidate had garnered more votes.
The Returning Officer for Kisauni Constituency Ibrahim Wario reported the incident at Nyali Police Station who took immediate action against the two after they refused to heed to the calls from agents and the Returning Officer to count the ballot papers.
Nyali Police Commander Daniel Masamba confirmed the incident and said the two were already in custody waiting to be charged in court for their offences.
Masamba said the duo will be charged under the Election Act 2016 with wilfully rejecting or refusing to count any ballot papers.

"The suspects are already in police custody awaiting to be arraigned in court to face relevant charges," Masamba said.
“They will be charged with willfully rejecting or refusing to count any ballot paper which they knew or had reasonable cause to believe such a person was entitled to vote, which is an offence under the election Act of 2016.”
This is yet another incident involving IEBC officials engaging in election malpractice after another IEBC official was arrested for secretly issuing double ballot papers to some individuals at Gatina Ward, in Dagoretti Constituency.
