Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has officially declared he will run for the Homa Bay governor seat in the 2022 General Election.
Dr Kidero, who seeks to replace governor Cyprian Awiti who has served his two terms, has been setting camp in the lakeside county since Thursday convincing various groups to back his bid.
The former Mumias Sugar CEO, has already gotten the backing of former Homa Bay Trade CEC Carelus Ademba and former Homa Bay gubernatorial aspirant Enosh Bolo among others.
Dr Kidero, who headed Mumias for a controversial 8 years, has held meetings in Karachuonyo, Kasipul, Rangwe and Kabondo Kasipul constituencies at the homes of former Karachuonyo MP Phoebe Asiyo and late lecturer Ken Ouko to rally support.
He, on Saturday, attended a service at Agoro Sare SDA Church in Oyugis Town where he appealed to the congregants to pray for him as he seeks the county’s top seat come next year.

Dr Kidero, who hails from Asumbi in Rangwe Constituency, has hinted through calendars he has been circulating that he will be seeking the Homa Bay County top seat on an ODM party ticket.
The politician, who served only one five-year term, was trounced in the 2017 Nairobi governor election by Mike Sonko, who was himself impeached last month over various grave charges.
Dr Kidero, in his campaigns, has promised jobs for the youth, a transformed health sector and improved sanitation should he become the next Homa Bay County Governor.
His tenure in Nairobi was marred by allegations of graft, mismanagement, pile up of garbage, ghost workers and many pundits are watching closely the election pledges he will give in Homa Bay and if residents will give him a fresh mandate away from City Hall.
The former City Hall boss is facing charges in court alongside former chief officers in his county administration over the alleged loss of Sh213 million but they have denied the said 35 counts.
The charges include abuse of office, dealing with suspect property, conspiracy to commit an offence of graft, fraudulent acquisition of public property and unlawful failure to pay tax.
