The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition presidential running mate Martha Karua took a swipe at the Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate William Ruto in relation to a viral video of Ruto breaking down during a prayer meeting held at his Karen house.

Karua was addressing Azimio supporters who thronged Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Wednesday when she threw a subtle jab at Ruto telling that Christianity does not have anything to do with tears but everything to do with one's deeds.

She also said a Christian is recognised by following Christian ways, his love for other people, humility and not by going to church.

“People should stop pretending that they are Christians. Christianity is not by word, it is not by going to church nor is it by tears but rather by deeds. If you are a Christian, show Christian characters, love other people, and stop with pride and threats. Humble yourself the way Christ humbled himself,” Karua said.

Karua also told Ruto to stop playing deputy Jesus since he does not own the monopoly of Jesus.

“Jesus Christ has no deputy. Stop pretending to be his deputy on earth, he belongs to all of us,” she said.

Karua further lambasted the deputy president and his Kenya Kwanza brigade for putting her faith and that of her principal Raila Odinga to question.

She said that only God has the authority to judge people.

“I joined politics before some of my rivals. You have found me in politics while going to church, but in this late hour, you want to doubt my Christianity? Wait for judgment by Christ when we all go to heaven,” Karua said.

“They found my boss serving in Parliament as a Christian in the Anglican Church, like me, who are they now to claim he is not a Christian? Leave us alone and do your own campaigns.”
