The outgoing Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has thrown his weight behind Machakos gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti.
Mutua was speaking during a political rally in Machakos town on Saturday when he assured Machakos residents he will vote for Wavinya in the forthcoming August 9 election during the
Mutua who joined the Deputy President William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza Alliance said Wavinya who is vying for the seat on the Wiper Party ticket, which is affiliated with the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition is the best candidate to succeed him.
The governor said he will vote for Wavinya come August 9, to be his governor.
Mutua cited Wavinya’s ability to bring development to Machakos County as his reason for rooting for her.

"I am now leaving you as the Machakos governor. I want to tell you who I will leave you with as your next governor," Mutua said.
"My vote I will give to Wavinya Ndeti because she is the one who can bring development to Machakos County. I defeated Wavinya Ndeti several times.”
Wavinya will face CCU party leader Nzioka Waita, ELP party leader Rose Mulwa and his arch-rival Johnson Muthama who will vie for the same seat on a UDA ticket.
Muthama and Mutua's rivalry has played out in public as Muthama accuses Mutua of the mismanagement of Machakos County.
Mutua’s declaration comes as a boost to Wavinya after Maendeleo Chap Chap gubernatorial candidate Francis Maliti stepped down from the race in favour of Wavinya a few days ago.
