Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate William Ruto has flipped on his earlier stand that he made a deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta to support him for the presidency.

Ruto was speaking during an interview with an international broadcaster when he said he supported Uhuru because of his belief that he deserved the opportunity to become president.

He claimed it was Uhuru who made a commitment to him and Kenyans that he would pass the button to him at the end of his tenure and support his presidential bid.

“To be fair to President Uhuru Kenyatta, we didn’t have a deal. I decided to support Uhuru Kenyatta on the basis of my belief that he deserved an opportunity,” Ruto said.

The Deputy President said he has his own agenda and the capacity to deliver on his plans to succeed Uhuru even without his support.

“I have an agenda and I believe I have the capacity to deliver on this plan,” he said.

Ruto attributed the success of the Jubilee government to his contribution and reiterated his fitness in taking over from Uhuru.

“When I have had an opportunity to make a contribution, the contribution has been loud and it is clear. The people of Kenya can see my fingerprints on the success of this government,” the DP said.

He claimed the Jubilee government lost the way to its development vision after Uhuru shook hands with Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

However, Ruto promised to take the opportunity if elected president to put Kenya back on its track.
