President Uhuru Kenyatta cautioned Kenyans against being hoodwinked by sweet-talking politicians into voting for them in the August general election.

Uhuru was speaking in Nairobi's Eastlands on Tuesday where he went to officially open health facilities.

"Do not be lured by sweet-talking politicians who seek leadership for self-gain but have no commitment to the public good. Sometimes I am shocked by what some leaders say in public forums," Uhuru said.

He appealed to Kenyans to assess carefully the individuals seeking leadership positions before committing their votes to them.

The president said that was to ensure the country is committed to the hands of fit leaders who will take the country to the next level of prosperity.

He asked the Kenyans to elect people who will continue with the good work his administration has done instead of leaders who only antagonise others.

"That’s why we are encouraging that we elect people who will come and continue with this work. It is not good to antagonize. There’s no one that's perfect but when there are problems a good leader will call others and sit down to discuss solutions," the president said.

Uhuru said Kenya needs leaders who will provide solutions to rising problems the county is facing and not problem creators.
