Monday July 11, 2022 is officially a public holiday.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, in a gazette notice dated July 8, 2022, announced that the day has been set aside to commemorate Id-Ul-Adha.

Id-Ul-Adha or Eid-al-Adha is the second and biggest of the two main holidays celebrated in in the Islam religious calendar.

The day honors the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to the command of Allah.

"IT IS notified for general information that in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 3 as read with section 2 (2) of the Public Holidays Act (Cap. 110), the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government declares Monday, 11th July, 2022 a public holiday marking Idd–ul –Adha," the notice read.
