British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to resign as the leader of the Conservative Party on Thursday.

According to an intimate source at 10 Downing Street, Boris agreed to stand down after speaking to Sir Graham Brady, the 1922 Committee of backbench Tory MPs.

A spokesperson of No 10 Downing Street confirmed this report saying Johnson will make a statement to the country on Thursday.

The decision to resign comes after over 50 Tory MPs quit the Government within only 48 hours.

Initially, Johnson vowed to stay put despite mounting calls for him to resign coupled with the ongoing wave of resignations.

His resignation will leave a power vacuum at the top of the Conservative Party, with leadership contenders now expected to declare their candidacy soon.
