Kenya Kwanza Alliance principal and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has denied claims linking him to the company that was awarded the tender to print and supply election materials to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Wetangula dismissed the claims and termed them malicious, emphasising he has had no relationship with the electoral body.

He also denied having knowledge of any ballot printing, nor does he have any links with any printing company.

“The story is desperately malicious and false in its entirety and actionable. I have never had any business. relationship with IEBC. I know nothing about ballot printing or any printing business for that matter. If I have any links with the printing company that I have no knowledge of or from IEBC if they have any commercial relationship with me apart from overseeing my elections,” Wetangula said.

Wetangula also denied writing any letters to three businessmen from the firm, inviting them for a week's investment tour in the country and said if any such letters existed then they were forgeries.

“If any letters were written on letterheads indicating they are from the Bungoma senator’s office, they must be forgeries!! I have never written such letters. I do not and I repeat, I do not know the three foreigners being referred to. ODM must keep me out of their election woes and come to the reality that they are once again staring at a disastrous election outing,” the senator said.

Furthermore, the FORD-Kenya Party leader dismissed the story as a malicious ploy to divert attention from the real election issues of fighting corruption, the rising cost of living in the country and his faction’s win in the August election.

“The malicious story is simply a diversion from real election issues of fighting corruption, high cost of living, debt burden, state capture, glaring conflicts of interest in the management of public affairs, and of course our imminent and unstoppable victory come August 9, 2022,” he said.

Wetangula was reacting to a report in a local daily that said the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition wanted the IEBC, EACC and DCI to probe him over his connection to three businessmen from the same firm that got the tender to print the August ballot papers.

The same report indicated that Wetangula canvassed for one Abdalla Makokha, whom he described as ‘personally known to him’ to be facilitated with a Visa to Greece to meet an investor associated with Inform Lykos firm, the firm awarded the tender to supply election materials.

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed on Wednesday morning also threatened to release a video in which Wetangula was captured in the company of high-ranking IEBC offers at a Karen residence.

Indeed, an amateur video has been shared online of showing Wetangula speaking with unknown individuals at an unknown location.
