The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga has said he will accept defeat if he loses in the August general election.

Raila said that during a joint interview they held with his running mate Martha Karua on Tuesday evening.

He was responding to a query that has been raised several times by his opponents on the Kenya kwanza Alliance faction if he would concede defeat.

Raila said he was a sports person and therefore would easily concede defeat and congratulate the victor.

“Definitely. I am a sportsman and I know that 'asiyekubali kushindwa si mshindani'. I would easily accept defeat and congratulate the winner,” Raila said.

The former premier also expressed confidence in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission's (IEBC) capacity in conducting a free and fair election process.

Karua also emphasised it is the collective responsibility of IEBC, political parties and individual candidates to ensure a free and fair election process.

“We each have a responsibility to make the election, free, fair and credible. Everybody involved in the electoral process has a role to play, if each one of us stood up for our country then we wouldn’t have complaints in elections,” Karua said.
