Former Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko has moved to court to bar the Wiper Party from nominating another candidate to replace him in the Mombasa gubernatorial race.

Sonko filed an exparte application through his lawyer Jared Magolo before the Mombasa High Court in which he claims that after the 72 hours allowed by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for his replacement elapsed he stood to suffer great losses.

This is regarding the amount of money and time he has invested in his bid to vie for the Mombasa governor’s seat.

Sonko also filed a petition against the electoral body, barring the commission from printing ballot papers for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat ahead of the August election.

Justice Olga Sewe of Mombasa High Court certified the matter as urged and issued orders to Sonko to serve the Wiper Party, IEBC and the commission’s Dispute Resolution Committee on Friday.
