The High Court in Nairobi on Wednesday suspended the decision by the Commission for University Education to revoke the recognition of Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja's Team University degree.

In a Judicial review case, the court ordered CUE to maintain the validity of Sakaja's controversial university degree until the court issues further directions on the case filed by the politician.

"An Order of Certiorari to remove into this honourable court and quash the decision of the Commission for University Education Made on 14th June, 2022, revoking the recognition of the applicant's (Sakaja) degree from Teams University, Kampala, Uganda," the court order read in part.

The city court, in the directive, also blocked IEBC from removing Sakaja’s name from its list of candidates who have been cleared to contest for the gubernatorial seat in the August 9 general election.

The senator rushed to the High Court on Wednesday evening in an effort to have the CUE decision to revoke recognition of his Team University degree reversed and save his shaken political future.

CUE had revoked recognition of his Bachelor of Science in Management (external) degree on grounds that many issues had been raised on its validity that needed to be investigated further.
