The rivalry between Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala and former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has played out in the open.
This was clear during their joint rally in Matungu, Kakamega on Tuesday when the two members of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance displayed their underlying discord.
During the event, Khalwale seem to have forgotten that they play for the same team as Malala and forgot to endorse him for the Kakamega Governor’s seat.
Instead, Khalwale urged the residents of Kakamega to vote for whoever they pleased since the two main aspirants in the Kakamega gubernatorial race namely Malala and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance candidate Fernandes Barasa were both from Kakamega.
"My people, I am Khalwale. I want you to know that I come from Kakamega, Malala comes from Kakamega and Fernandes from Kakamega," Khalwale said.
However, Khalwale drummed up support for himself for the senatorial seat terming himself the best legislator in Kenya.
"All of us are seeking seats. Weigh us and pick whoever you want for any seat. Choose one who will care for you. Remember Khalwale is the best legislator in Kenya," Khalwale added.
Khalwale’s remarks did not go down well with Malala who lashed out at Khalwale saying he was confused.
Malala insisted Kakamega was his stronghold and accused Khalwale of playing for both sides of the political divide.
"What is he saying now. He is confused. Stop being confused. This is my stronghold. If you have started eating from both sides of the political divide, say," Malala said.
Khalwale and Malala have previously displayed their political bromance even though Khalwale was forced to drop his gubernatorial bid in favour of Malala.
