Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate William Ruto has once again found himself in a tight religious spot after quoting a non-existent bible verse on public television.
Ruto was speaking during an interview on a local television station on Sunday when the incident happened.
The Deputy President quoted Matthew 17:29, trying to drive his point home perhaps about his following ahead of the August election.
"In Mathew 17: 29, when the disciples of Jesus Christ were following Him, they asked Him; 'we have left our families, we have left our businesses. We used to be fishermen, we have come to follow you, what is in it for us?” Ruto quoted.
However, that little detail did not escape the attention of vigilant and religious Kenyans who immediately knew that the verse Ruto quoted was not published in any bibles at least, not in the versions they had.

Most of them pointed out a fact that a quick check on the good book confirmed that the book of Matthew Chapter 17 only goes up to verse 27.
The verse the deputy president might have been looking for was Matthew 19:27.
Ruto’s mishap comes barely a month after raising dust with a similar incident during the National Prayer Breakfast meeting at which he also quoted a non-existent verse and mixed up his verses.
The latest incident also elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans who took to social media to express their feelings.
Here are some of the reactions on social Twitter:
If William Ruto can edit the Bible, he surely can edit Johnson Sakaja's transcripts to include all the units that the guy was supposed to resit. Because what are friends for?

This hullabaloo about DP Ruto bible misquote is nonsense. You don't have to like him but sheeeesh! Even pastors, whose full work is ministry misquote the Bible accidentally. Kwendeni huko. Bure Kabisa.

Kenyans already know that it is Ruto's nature to misquote the bible and read his own shenanigans in the name of verses.#BwanaAsifiwe pic.twitter.com/9TMYVERNQv
