A committee of top officials planning the handover of power from President Uhuru Kenyatta to the next president after the August election is working on the transition.
The Interior Permanent Secretary Karanja Kibicho revealed this.
“We are coming to the end of this administration and by law, there is the assumption of office committee that will start…It will start preparing for handing over power,” Kibicho said.
Kenya Kwanza Alliance allied leaders have questioned why President Uhuru has not yet appointed a substantive secretary to the cabinet.
The Head of Civil Service, Joseph Kinyua has been acting in that capacity since the Parliament rejected Uhuru’s nominee Monica Juma in 2018.

Uhuru nominated Juma for the position after dropping Francis Kimemia from the role in 2004.
However, Deputy President William Ruto’s allies led by Garissa Town MP Aden Duale have opposed the move to appoint Kinyua to chair the committee before the matter is taken to Parliament.
Kibicho responded by saying the president is at liberty to organise his government in a manner he believes is appropriate.
The PS also said he was less worried about someone moving to court to challenge the appointment of Kinyua to oversee the transition of power.
Kibicho slammed Kenya Kwanza leaders for publicly criticising some government moves instead of holding discussions about matters for clarification.
“…instead of inviting us to go and explain what they feel is not clear to them regarding the policies in place,” Kibicho said.
