In the past 24 hours, Kenya has lost two patients to Covid-19, raising the country’s fatality from the virus to 1,655. 

The two deaths were announced by Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, who also said confirmed Covid-19 infections had also risen by 130 in the same period raising the cumulative figures since March to 95,843.

The new virus cases were confirmed from a total sample of 1,973, raising Kenya’s cumulative tests conducted since the first case was confirmed in March to 1,031,721.

The new cases were distributed with Nairobi leading with 64, Mombasa 13, Murang’a 9, Nyeri 8, Kiambu and Meru 4 each, while Busia, Bungoma, Kwale and Kisumu recorded 3 cases each.

In a statement, Kagwe announced that 187 more patients recovered from the virus increasing total recoveries to 76,998; 93 in home-based care and 94 discharged from various hospitals.

681 patients remain admitted at various hospitals across the country with 3,650 others being treated under the home-based care programme.

According to the CS, 38 of the virus patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 19 are on ventilator support and 16 on supplemental oxygen while the other three are on observation.

Similarly, 33 other Coronavirus patients are on supplementary oxygen, out of these 26 are in the general wards and seven are being looked after in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
