Denis Karani Gachoki, the chief suspect in the Mirema shooting of Samuel Mugo Muvota, has surrendered himself to police.

Gachoki surrendered to police at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi along Kiambu Road on Monday morning after the DCI issued a ‘wanted’ notice against him on Friday.

Gachoki was being sought by police in connection to the broad daylight shooting of Muvota in Mirema, Kasarani in Nairobi as he was being considered the chief suspect in the shooting incident.

Gachoki who walked into the DCI headquarters accompanied by an unidentified man maintained that he was innocent and claims to have met Muvota only twice; Nairobi and Meru.

He revealed he has an ongoing case in Meru in a case he which he was accused of fraudulently receiving money.

Earlier efforts by detectives to arrest him have been futile since the Gachoki is well-loaded and influences rogue cops who tip him off once an operation for his arrest is launched.

The detectives based at DCI’s Comms unit gathered that Gachoki, recently fell out with his boss Muvota over sharing of proceeds from their 'mchele' trade, and beautiful women who would first pay with their flesh before being enlisted to the mafia-style organization. 

According to DCI detectives, Gachoki was believed to be in possession of a firearm that was collected from a stupefied police officer after a round of drinks at a popular joint in Mombasa in November 2020.
