Interior PS Karanja Kibicho has instructed police officers in the entire country to crackdown on hired goons being used by rogue politicians to disrupt political functions.

Kibicho was speaking in Kirinyaga County on Friday when he opened officially seven new administrative units in the area.

His directive comes following intel from various law enforcement agencies linking the recent disruption of political functions in Kirinyaga County to hired goons.

The PS noted that investigations placed two local politicians in the middle of the chaos allegedly for hiring goons to disrupt their rival’s political functions.

He said Kirinyaga was a peaceful place with civilised and hospitable residents. Kibicho also said they will not allow a few hooligans to tarnish the reputation of Kirinyaga County.

“Kirinyaga is a peaceful county and our people are civilized and hospitable. We cannot allow a handful of hooligans to cause chaos here and taint the good reputation of our county,” Kibicho said.

He appealed to government administrators to work together with the National Police Service (NPS) to single out and bring such hooligans to book.

Kibicho also cautioned Kirinyaga residents against being used by rogue leaders who corrupt the minds of the youth with alcohol and drugs.

He also said insults and chaos are retrogressive and primitive practises that residents of Kirinyaga should not tolerate because they are beyond such.

“Insults and sponsoring chaos are retrogressive and primitive practices, and Kirinyaga is beyond that. We must oppose leaders corrupting the minds of our young people using cheap liquor and bhang as a means to political glory,” the PS said.

Kibicho was speaking particularly against the backdrop of recent incidents where hooligans tried to disrupt political gatherings that Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition presidential running mate Martha Karua was addressing in Kirinyaga.
