Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki is on Monday set to reveal his next political move after Deputy President William Ruto picked Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate.

In a statement on Sunday, Kindiki indicated that said he would, in a press conference issue an official statement on the path he will take after he missed the UDA running mate slot.

"Following the decision taken by my Party & Coalition regarding the matter earlier today, I will make my official statement in public tomorrow, 16th May 2022. God bless Kenya and thank you," Kindiki posted on Twitter.

The Tharaka Nithi senator thanked all his supporters who backed his efforts to be picked DP Ruto’s running mate under the Kenya Kwanza alliance ahead of the August General Election.

He added, "I am eternally grateful to all those who supported & vouched for me to be nominated the UDA & Kenya Kwanza Deputy Presidential Candidate in the Elections scheduled for 9th August 2022."

Kindiki skipped the Sunday event in which the UDA party leader announced he had settled on Gachagua, a former District Officer, to be a potential Deputy President after the coming polls.

Kindiki and Gachagua were the top contenders but after more than 17 hours of tense discussions and negotiations Ruto picked the Mathira MP showering him with praises.

"Gachagua is my friend whom I have worked with, especially on that Bottom-Up Economic model and we started that journey together. He understands people's issues, he is passionate about ordinary people," Ruto said in a presser at his Karen residence.

Before the unveiling, there was a stalemate in Kenya Kwanza pitting Mt Kenya MPs backing Kindiki against those who preferred Gachagua resulting in the delayed announcement.

There were protests in Kindiki’s backyard after he failed to bag the slot given the DP had told him to forego his Tharaka Nithi gubernatorial bid to work with him at the national level.
