Kenya Kwanza Alliance has hit a snag with plans to name the formation’s running mate during the August general election after high anticipations.
Deputy President William Ruto was scheduled to name his running mate on Saturday morning at his Karen residence, but until the time of this publication, the announcement was to be made.
It was widely speculated that Ruto will choose his running mate from among Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua and Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki or Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.
However, it seems Kenya Kwanza has not yet settled on a candidate to fill in the position as negotiations have reached an impasse leading to the walkout of two individuals namely Rigathi and Kindiki.
Kindiki left the DP’s residence first at around 5 pm and about 20 minutes later, Gachagua followed suit.

Some Kenya Kwanza Alliance leaders are still in talks at Ruto’s residence, hoping to bring the matter to a smooth conclusion.
Rigathi’s supporters have protested the possibility of their leader being left out of the running mate position.
According to a video that has since gone viral on social media, the supporters gathered at an unknown location and were chanting pro-Rigathi slogans saying “No Rigathi, No Ruto”.
The running mate selection has proven not to be a walk in the park as Ruto had earlier bragged.
"The issue of running mate is an important one, but it does not give us sleepless nights because we are an alliance built on people's issues, not leaders' positions. So that of running mate is the easiest of the issues," Ruto said.
