Azimio La Umoja One Kenya has settled on former Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe of Jubilee Party to be nominated for Nairobi governor post with Wiper Party’s Prof Philip Kaloki to be his running mate.

The new consensus team was announced by Azimio One Kenya Coalition Party Leader Raila Odinga during a press conference at the Kenya International convention Center (KICC) on Friday afternoon.

In the new lineup for Nairobi County, Tim Wanyonyi, who had expressed interest in upgrading to see the governor position on an ODM ticket, has stepped down and will now defend his Westlands MP seat.

Raila also announced that Edwin Sifuna of ODM is the coalition's choice in the Nairobi Senate race, while Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris will defend her seat in the August election.

A section of Azimio leaders and supporters have in the recent days expressed their disappointment with the choice of Igathe, who essentially killed the gubernatorial dreams of Richard Ngatia and Wanyonyi.

The Azimio council chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila as party leader has moved quickly to quell internal divisions and murmurs caused by the move to unite the camps ahead of the August poll.
