The Orange Democratic Movement has suspended its party primaries for parliamentary seats in Kisii County.

Following the suspension, the aspirants were invited to the party’s headquarters at Orange House, Nairobi, for a meeting.

However, some aspirants have come out saying they did not receive any communique regarding the Nairobi meeting from ODM and as such, did not make travel arrangements.

A section of the aspirants said they received phone calls in the wee hours of the night and embarked on their journey to Nairobi as a matter of urgency.

Kisii County ODM chairperson Kerosi Ondieki revealed the party will not hold primaries in the regions because the party has opted for consensus to determine the aspirants for the positions.

"We are not holding the parliamentary nominations. The aspirants are already in Nairobi. The party has seen it wise to use consensus for the positions," Kerosi said.

Kerosi revealed that the same criteria will be applied to the Woman Representative position. However, the nominations for MCAs were not affected.

The cancellation of ODM nominations has caused some undertones from disgruntled aspirants who felt the party let them down and was favouring some individuals among them.

One such person is the aspirant for Nyaribari Masaba seat Laban Chweya who said the move by ODM was unacceptable.

"We will not allow this. We thought ODM will this time round be democratic. But what has happened today is unacceptable. Our supporters were at polling stations by 6 am ready to cast their votes," Chweya said.

Chweya said ODM is repeating the same mistake it made in the previous elections, which cost the party all the parliamentary seats in the region.

He accused his counterparts who came to Nairobi of betrayal.
