The National Police Service (NPS) has noted an incident that has been trending on social media, in which a police officer on traffic duties was captured forcing himself into a private vehicle through the window.

The incident was witnessed along Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi's Central Business District.

The officer now faces disciplinary action after NPS instituted the measures against him for his action.

According to video footage that was captured by journalists from a local media house, the officer had an argument with the driver of the vehicle before gaining forceful entry into the car through the passenger window while paying no regard to the passenger.

After getting into the vehicle, the traffic officer whose name remains unknown ejected the driver and proceeded to commandeer the vehicle with the passenger watching helplessly in shock and bewilderment.

The incident attracted the attention of onlookers and the online Kenyan community who condemned the act and demanded action to be taken against the officer.

NPS confirmed that the identity of the traffic officer has already been established positively.

NPS has condemned the incident and reiterated that their officers should discharge their mandate professionally, diligently and with discipline.

"We reiterate that it is imperative for individual police officers to discharge their mandate professionally, diligently and with high levels of discipline," NPS said.
