Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga has received yet another boost to his presidential bid after the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) declared support for him.
The declaration came after UASU held a meeting with Raila at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation in Upper Hill, Nairobi on Tuesday.
According to UASU boss Constantine Wesonga, the declaration was informed by a deep analysis of the candidates eyeing the presidency.
Wesonga said UASU members will go out and campaign for the former premier’s election.

"We have decided the former Prime Minister is our own. Can we go out and campaign," Wesonga said.
The union that comprises university dons and staff from all the 31 public universities also pledged to volunteer as Raila’s agents on election day.
Wesonga said there was an urgent need to increase the funding in public universities to 85 per cent from the 45 per cent at which it currently stands.
The union appealed to Raila to see to it that their wages are revised upwards when he becomes the president.
South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU)’s Mary Mwangi said the 2022 election has the potential of either making or breaking Kenya. She also affirmed their support for Raila.
"We really affirm our support realising that this 2022 elections can really make or break this country," Mwangi said.
Raila’s presidential bid is continuing to garner support from such unions. Recently, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) threw their weight behind Raila.
The union said they usually work with the government of the day and KNUT Secretary-General Collins Oyuu urged his colleagues to follow suit to succeed in their endeavours.
