The CS Ministry of Interior Fred Matiang’i has ordered the release of all impounded boda bods motorbikes from various police stations across the country by evening.

Matiangi issued the order while speaking during the national convention for boda boda reforms at the Kenya School of Government in Kabete.

He asked the secretary for Internal Security to avail the register of all boda boda riders to all county commissioners, deputy county commissioners and regional commissioner for processing the release of the impounded motorbikes.

Matiang’i also directed that Boda boda Association of Kenya (BAK) chairpersons attend his security meetings whenever he visits any county.

Matiang’i added that government requires security updates from boda boda chairperson whenever they visit a county for a security meeting.

"Tell the commissioners that we want to work with these people. From this day forward, when I arrive at a county security meeting, we want to be given security updates from the boda boda chairpersons. We will allow them to ask questions, and we will give answers," Matiang’i said.

Matiang’i emphasised his commitment to bring reforms in the boda boda sector, noting how it is critical to the economy.

"Which government will play games with 2.5 million of its citizens who contribute billions to the economy? I want to reform the boda boda sector just as the late John Michuki did to the matatu sector, and we are entering a lifelong covenant today with you," he added.

Matiang’i also cautioned the boda bods operators against being misused and influenced by politicians to take part in violence during the electioneering period.

The CS also asked the boda boda riders to shun gender-based violence and practice decency on the road instead.
