Musalia Mudavadi’s party, Amani National Congress (ANC) has responded to Mathira Members of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua’s remarks on Monday morning during an interview with a local media house.

According to the party’s statement issued by Secretary-General Simon Gikuru, the political outfit is yet to settle on a preferred presidential candidate, nor a running mate.

He said their principals William Ruto, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula will unveil at their appropriate time the flag bearer and his running mate.

“Kenya Kwanza Coalition has not decided on its presidential and running mate candidates. This will happen and be unveiled at an appropriate time by our principals Musalia Mudavadi, Dr. William Ruto and Moses Wetangula,” the statement read.

ANC further stated Gachagua has no authority to speak on behalf of Kenya Kwanza on the matter of presidential and running mate candidates and rendered his remarks untimely and unwarranted.

“In this regard, Hon. Rigathi Gachagua has no authority to speak for Kenya Kwanza on the matter hence his sentiments are premature, untimely and unwarranted,” read the statement.

Gachagua claimed Ruto’s running mate in the August general election will come from the Mount Kenya region and emphasised that it was a done deal.

“But as far as I'm concerned Ruto is a presidential candidate and the running mate will come from the mountain at an appropriate time,” Gachagua said.
