The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) has issued a traffic advisory to UN Avenue users warning of heavy and continuous traffic delays expected along in the area from Monday to Friday.

The traffic situation will be occasioned by UN Environmental Assembly (UNEA) being hosted in the county and the activities that will take place regarding the 50th anniversary of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) scheduled between the specified dates.

“The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) wishes to advise members of the general public, particularly its Gigiri and Runda neighbours, as well as UN Avenue road users, that as a result of the UN Environmental Assembly (UNEA) - the world's highest environmental decision-making body - and activities surrounding the 50th anniversary of UNEP scheduled to take place from 28 February to 4 March 2022, heavy and continuous traffic delays are expected in the area,” the notice read.

UNON further advised motorists using that route normally to seek alternative routes or other means of transportation to their various destinations.

“In view of the above, we encourage those who normally use the UN Avenue route to either seek alternative routes and/or use other means of transportation,” the notice read in part.

The development is likely to cause traffic on other roads as well that are linked to UN Avenue.
