Two men who abducted a Catholic nun and applied violence to rob her of her money were arraigned in a Meru court on Thursday.

Patrick Ngure and Nixon Kinyua were apprehended after holding the nun hostage for over four hours on February 5 and demanded money from her.

On that fateful day, the missionary from Nazareth Sisters nun was travelling from Kiamuri towards Meru when a vehicle pulled over at the bus stop.

The driver offered the nun a lift to her destination as he alleged he was headed towards Nanyuki. That was too good an offer to turn down and the nun hopped into the car.

The conniving driver struck a rapport with the nun by engaging her in a flowing conversation.

Things took a drastic turn when they reached the nun's destination at a place called Gatimbi as the driver did not stop even at the request of the nun.

The driver’s accomplice who lay patiently waiting in the back seat reclined the nun’s seat before blindfolding her marking the beginning of her four-hour ordeal.

The two hoodlums threatened the nun with rape and murder if she refused to comply with their demands. The nun was forced to yield and the duo first stole all the money she had in her purse, cleaned her Mpesa Account then forced her to call her colleagues asking for more money.

Once the criminals were done with robbing the poor nun, they marooned her in a secluded area and scampered.

The case was reported, and detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau took over the case.

Using digital forensic analysis at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the detectives tracked down the suspects and arrested them along the Kitui-Kibwezi Road while preying on other victims.

The two pleaded not guilty to robbery with violence charges and were released on bond.
