President Uhuru Kenyatta has cautioned political leaders against allowing political competition to undermine peace and security in the country.
Uhuru said that while addressing leaders from Marsabit when he hosted them at State House on Thursday.
He challenged the leaders to play the important role of ensuring citizens live together in harmony regardless of their backgrounds.

“Political differences should not be allowed to become an impediment to peace and stability. As leaders, you have a role to play in ensuring that citizens live together peacefully irrespective of their tribal, political or religious affiliation,” Uhuru said.
Uhuru emphasised political differences should be amicably solved to safeguard the country’s stability and development.
The president said focused leaders bent on improving the country and its citizens would not entertain disruptive political competition.
“If your focus, as a leader, is to work to improve your country and the lives of your people there won’t be room for political competition that disrupts peace, which is the key ingredient in development,” the Head of State said.
The president asked the Marsabit leaders to shun misplaced rivalry that impoverishes the people of Kenya rather focus on transforming the country and uplifting the lives of Kenyans.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani and North Horr MP Francis Ganya Chachu who led the delegation of Marsabit leaders thanked President Kenyatta for his transformative leadership that has facilitated rapid development in their county.
“As the people of Marsabit County, we are grateful for the development we have witnessed during your tenure in office. We will never forget you for the implementation of projects worth billions of shillings. These projects have lifted the lives of many of our people,” they said.
