ODM leader Raila Odinga has reiterated under his Kenyan national team Harambee Stars will feature at the next African Cup of Nations competition.

Raila said this while congratulating Senegal’s national team the Lions, on winning 2022 (AFCON) against Egypt on Sunday at the finals in Cameroon after a 4-2 win in the penalty shootout session.

“Congratulations Senegal on winning #AFCON2021 I promise the legion of Kenyan soccer fans that under my administration Harambee stars will be at the next #Afcon,” Raila tweeted.

The former premier said under his administration Kenya will invest in football, starting with grassroots and community football clubs.

“We’ll invest in football starting with grassroots/main and community clubs,” the tweet continued.

This is an affirmation of what the ODM leader said when he spoke during a luncheon held at a luncheon held by Mount Kenya Foundation (MKF) and the leaders of the Maa community in Nairobi on January 25, 2022.

He told the leaders of the two communities that Kenya will take part in both AFCON and the World Cup football competitions.

Raila is a soccer fan who also played the game in his hay days.

While speaking to Harambee Stars before the AFCON kickoff in 2019, Raila revealed he once played football in Zamalek when he was a young man.

Later on, Raila played for Luo Union, which was later rebranded Reunion as a midfielder before it finally became Gor Mahia.
