Police on patrol shot one thug dead and maimed five others after catching them attacking a Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology student in Githurai 44 area.
A gang of six machete-wielding criminals accosted the student named John Ndegwa and roughed him thoroughly before stealing his mobile phone and Sh10,000 he had.
Ndegwa, a visitor in the area, had come from the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital to drop his brother’s curriculum vitae for consideration.
He found himself strolling in Majengo area before he was attacked by the vicious gang at around 2:00 pm.
He first came face to face with the gang when he went to a nearby food kiosk and they asked him to buy them some cigarettes a request to which he obliged by offering them thugs Sh100.

The gang left Ndegwa to enter the food kiosk and partake in his lunch and once he came out, the ungrateful bunch pounced on him.
Ndegwa raised an alarm which attracted the attention of police officers on patrol who immediately responded by rushing to the scene to rescue the victim.
Upon realising their escape window was narrowing, the criminals scattered in different directions before one thug does a homemade pistol and shot at the officers who were in hot pursuit.
The officers ducked the bullet and immediately returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect who is believed to be the gang’s ringleader.
His accomplices managed to escape albeit with gunshot wounds.
A contingent of police officers backed up by others from the canine section was immediately deployed to the area to search for the escaped criminals.
Police recovered a mobile phone belonging to Ndegwa from the fallen criminal.
His body was later moved to the City Mortuary pending identification.
Police are urging medical practitioners to report anyone seeking treatment for gunshot wounds from their health institutions.
