A security operation by a multi-agency team has left fifteen suspected Al-Shabaab operatives dead in Bodhei area, Boni Forest, Lamu East.

Two Al-Shabaab command and logistics bases were also destroyed during the operation dubbed Amani Boni

The security team cornered members of the outlawed outfit and engaged them in a serious battle that left some dead and others seriously injured.

The militia group is suspected to be involved in recent night attacks of villages in the region that took place in January.

The security team recovered improvised explosive devices (IEDs), AK-47 rifles, two machine guns, several rounds of ammunition, communication gadgets and several military uniforms during the raid.

Six people were reported dead in the first night attack and several houses were razed down by the fire, while during the second attack two people lost their lives and the attackers torched several houses.

The government has since beefed up security in the region in a bid to contain the terrorist activities taking place in the region.
