14 people have died while 12 others have been left seriously wounded following a tragic road accident that occurred at Kakwamunyen area on the Lodwar-Kakuma road.

The fatal road accident is reported to have happened after the lorry carrying the 26 people lost control and overturned before landing into a culvert on Saturday night.

The National Police Service (NPS) says the driver of the said lorry was forced to swerve off the road to avoid hitting a camel that was crossing the road at Kakwamunyen area.

At the time of the accident, which took the lives of the 14 passengers on the spot, the lorry that was also carrying goods was heading towards Kakuma.

“Unfortunately, due to the heavy weight of the vehicle from the goods and the passengers onboard, the driver lost control of the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle overturned and landed in a culvert on the right side of the road occasioning injuries to the passengers and the vehicle extensively damaged,” NPS said in a post on Twitter.
