Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives attached to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission arrested Meru Senator Mithika Linturi on Sunday Morning from a hotel in Eldoret.

The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed Linturi's arrest via their Twitter handle.

"Senator Mithika Linturi has been arrested early this morning over incitement utterances he made yesterday in a political rally in Eldoret. He is in police custody helping with investigations," Tweeted NPS.

Linturi was arrested in connection to his inflammatory 'madoadoa' remarks during Deputy President William Ruto’s rally held on Saturday at Eldoret Sports Ground in Uasin Gishu.

Linturi was then transferred to Kaptembwo Police Station in Nakuru where he recorded a statement and was briefly interrogated.

He was expected to be transferred to DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road in Nairobi before for further questioning before being arraigned in court probably on Monday.

His arrest comes even after he offered a public apology for his unfortunate remarks.
