President Uhuru Kenyatta commissioned a mega Public-Private partnership project in Roysambu, Nairobi.

The project is a housing project for the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) that will be rolled out in Nairobi County, Nakuru County, Laikipia County and Mombasa County.
The Head of State presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of the project that will see the construction of 3500 houses at Roysambu for KDF officers.

Uhuru emphasised the government’s focus on improving the wellbeing of military officers by providing decent and affordable housing.
While speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Uhuru said the government is happy to have a solution to the problem of shortage of houses for military officers in public-private partnership.
“Today marks the first step in the journey of addressing the problem of shortage of houses for our officers in the military. For a long time, we have been exploring ways of addressing the housing problem and we are happy that we have now found a solution through construction of the houses under public-private partnership,” Uhuru said.
The houses will be constructed on KDF land in Roysambu, Kwambuzi, Nyali and Gilgil under lease and transfer agreement.

Uhuru expressed his confidence in the project's implementation being done according to the set down plan, within a short timeframe for the betterment of KDF officers and their families.
“I am confident that this project will be implemented according to the set down plan to ensure that within a short time all our officers and their families have decent accommodation,” Uhuru said.

The president also said the government is also constructing and upgrading military hospitals to serve KDF officers and their families throughout the entire country.
Uhuru gave examples of the recently launched construction of a Level 4 hospital at Kawaha Garrison and the upgrading of KDF Memorial Hospital in Nairobi as some of the projects the government is undertaking to improve the welfare and morale of the KDF officers.

This is expected to enable them to execute their mandate effectively.
The Cabinet Secretary for Defence Eugene Wamalwa also attended the ceremony.
He said he was pleased his ministry is contributing to the realisation of one of the pillars of the Big Four Agenda of affordable housing through the KDF housing project.

Also present was the Chief of Defence Forces General Robert Kobochi who thanked the Head of State for making his support and guidance and provision of decent housing.
“I must, on behalf of the entire KDF, thank you Your Excellency for the support and guidance you have given us in terms of reaching this point where we are having to construct over 3,000 houses, in five regions of our country,” Kibochi said.

Kibochi asserted the KDF will develop adequate, decent accommodation for its officers within the next five years.
The Nairobi Metropolitan Services boss, General Mohammed Badi, also attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
