The High Court at Nairobi has issued a warrant of arrest against the Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss George Kinoti.
This comes after Kinoti was found guilty of contempt of court.
According to the warrant, Kinoti had been charged before the court for contempt of court order issued by Justice Mwita.
“WHEREAS MR. GEORGE MAINGI KINOTI has this day been charged before this Court for contempt of Court's order pursuant to an order issued by Hon. Justice Mwita on the 21st June, 2019,” the warrant read.
The order that was addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Hilary Mutyambai further instructed the IG to arrest Kinoti and present him to the court to answer to the contempt of court charge.

“THEREFORE, you are hereby commanded forthwith to apprehend the said MR. GEORGE MAINGI KINOTI and to bring him before this Court to answer to the said charge, and to be further dealt with according to law,” the warrant continued.
The court had issued an order to Kinoti, requiring him to surrender himself to the officer in charge of the Kamiti Maximum Prison to serve his four-month jail term.
This follows a long tussle with businessman Jimmy Wanjigi over firearms the DCI had confiscated from Wanjigi’s home back in 2017.
Wanjigi moved to court and filed a contempt of court case against Kinoti for failing to comply with another court order, which required Kinoti to return the firearms to Wanjigi.
Kinoti said he could not return the said firearms as they were not in his possession but in Firearms Licensing Board’s custody.
Attorney General Kariuki Kihara and Kinoti’s lawyers filed an application at the court to have the court set aside Kinoti’s jail sentence, but the court declined the prayer.
