Only 11,000 invited guests will be permitted to attend Jamhuri Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi on Sunday. 

Speaking while assessing the venue on Tuesday, Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho said construction works at the arena are at 95 per cent. 

Kibicho, who heads the national celebrations committee, said the dais will host only 1,000 people with the remaining 10,000 guests set to occupy the public sitting area for the arena to adhere to the Ministry of Health Covid-19 protocols.

“We are happy with the progress and I can confirm that everything has been perfectly done,” said Kibicho.

“On Thursday, my team and I will be visiting the facility to ensure everything is complete,” he added.

The Interior PS said the government will ensure all Covid-19 protocols are strictly adhered to during the celebrations at the Langata Road venue.

He added, “The invitations will be done through our routine system to ensure every Kenyan is represented”.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to officially launch the facility on Jamhuri Day even as construction continues for the remaining part of the memorial park of history and heroes to be located within the Uhuru Gardens.
