Nairobi MCAs have voted to impeach Governor Mike Sonko and recommended that he be kicked out of office.
A total of 88 MCAs voted Thursday afternoon for his ouster while 2 voted against the motion with zero abstentions in the ballot process that was done virtually.
Should Senators rubberstamp the decision by the city MCAs, Sonko’s fate would be sealed and Nairobians will be headed back to the ballot to elect his replacement.
The impeachment motion was moved by Nairobi County Assembly Minority Leader Michael Ogada coming as MCAs allied to Sonko had vowed to scuttle the process.
The governor flew tens of MCAs to the coast on Monday to thwart the ouster bid and claimed that he had the backing of 90 county legislators who opposed his removal.

They left for Mombasa immediately after police disrupted their press conference held at Riverside area of Nairobi to declare their unwavering support for the county boss.
In a post he shared after the impeachment sailed through, Sonko has insisted that the motion vote was illegitimate claiming that his accounts of his allies were hacked.

He has vowed to continue fighting his ouster despite "abuse of police power and intimidation" from unnamed quarters.
No amount of abuse of police power or intimidation will bow us down.
Aluta Continua.
Sonko has been at loggerheads with Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) and refused to sign the county’s 2020-2021 budget to deny it funds and in the process strangling other City Hall and County Assembly services and staff salaries.
