The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) director George Kinoti has asked to meet the 2NK SACCO driver, John Maina Muthoni, who reported 14 weed-smoking students from Fred's Grammar Mixed Secondary School.

This came after Kinoti heard Maina was dismissed from his job for the noble deed.

He said he noted with concern the events that have been unfolding since the incident.

Kinoti said he would wish to meet the dismissed driver as soon as possible and requested that Maina contact him.

“The Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti, has noted with grave concern the unfolding development and would like to meet the dismissed driver soonest possible. In this regard, Muthoni is requested to contact the Director urgently,” read the DCI tweet.

DCI said that Muthoni deserves to be rewarded instead of being reprimanded for risking his life to report a serious crime perpetrated by school-going children.

“Muthoni should have been commended by his employer for being brave and risking his life to report a serious crime of immorality that involved high school kids, instead of being shown the door,” the tweet partly read.

Maina was asked to reach Kinoti urgently or present himself at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road on November 29, 2021.

The DCI noted that school children are increasingly becoming vulnerable to drug abuse, which could contribute to the recent spate of criminal activities, including arson.

The DCI also revealed that their detectives in Nyeri have reliable leads that will help them flash out the students who escaped.

According to the DCI, the students will face the law once they are apprehended.

“Our detectives in Nyeri have made good progress in tracking down the students who escaped and once investigations are completed, they will face the full force of the law,” the statement read.

DCI encouraged Kenyans to report crimes within thier community through the anonymous toll-free hotline.
