Deputy President William Ruto has continued with his calls for consensus and unity on the proposed constitutional referendum on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Speaking at the burial of Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri’s mother in Nakuru County, Ruto said he would not oppose the BBI referendum despite some sections pushing him to lead “NO’ campaigns.
The second in command called on leaders across the political divide to sit down and agree on the sections of the amended report that need to be changed before the debate on the BBI continues.
The DP however hit out at Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti for what he termed as allowing to be used by unnamed politicians to cause tribal animosity in the Rift Valley.
Ruto appealed to communities living in his Rift Valley stronghold not allow themselves to be divided along political and ethnic lines.

"The abuse of criminal investigation and criminal prosecution targeting people because of their tribe or their political affiliation, is the wrong thing to do,” Ruto said at the burial.
He added, “But it is worse if criminal investigations and criminal prosecutions are used to incite ethnic hate and tribalism in our nation."
