US President-elect Joe Biden on Tuesday made a phone call to President Uhuru Kenyatta to thank him after the Kenyan Head of State congratulated him on his November 3 election win.
Biden also expressed his appreciation for Kenya’s strong political and economic ties to the US.
"The president-elect offered his gratitude for President Kenyatta’s congratulations and expressed his appreciation for the strong and lasting ties between our two countries," said Biden.
The US President-Elect, who officially takes office on January 20, expressed his interest in building on the partnership with Kenya in tackling climate change, supporting refugees and host communities and tackling challenges of regional security and instability.
In his congratulatory message, Kenyatta had termed Biden’s win in the divisive election as a sign of Americans’ confidence in the leadership credentials of the former Vice President under President Barack Obama.

"Americans have spoken loudly and clearly through their votes by picking a highly experienced, colourfully decorated and long-serving leader to become their next Head of State," said Kenyatta.
Kenyatta termed Biden as a friend of the country and whose last visit to Kenya former US President Barack Obama’s Vice President helped to renew the strong relationship between Kenya and US.
In his round of calls, Biden also spoke with Argentina President Alberto Fernández, Costa Rica leader Carlos Alvarado Quesada and with the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
