The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has called upon the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) to carry out an investigation on the illegal arrest of a Nation Media Group journalist.
DP Ruto securities officers roughed the reporter, Mwangi Muiruri, while taking photos during the official opening of Kangari United Dairy Cooperative Society in Murang'a County.
According to a presser from MCK, Mwangi was an accredited journalist, his phone was confiscated and his media badge was destroyed by cops during the DP Ruto rallies.
The council has requested IPOA to identify the officers involved and the circumstance that led to the entire incident.
According to MCK, this is the fifth time that a journalist is roughed up when covering the DP Ruto rallies.
